Manager Search Hots Up While Spurs Get 3 against Liverpool and Still Lose.

Most of us Spurs supporters are weathered old souls at this stage that have been through the wars. Some say we are cursed. Others say unlucky but it has sculpted me into the man I am today. Unbelievable at being about to take a good slagging from my friends and not crack. It has helped me alot in business especially when an old school chairman of the board starts shouting at you. Those who weathered the storm became his lieutenants and it became very beneficial when the company went global. I remember when I was 8, Spurs won the FA Cup. I watched it at home while my dad was in the pub with his friends. When he came home I was having a bath and he came in picked me up , danced around the place and threw me back in the bath. Water everywhere. The next time Spurs win something I would rather not be thrown in a bath.
I listen to around 4 Spurs podcasts each week and I have to say that the Spurs Show is the best one of them. The hosts are older and have been around the block a few times and are more patient when it comes to Tottenham. They have seen us just avoid relegation back in the 90's and do not fly off the handle as much as the other podcasts who are younger and maybe have not seen Tottenham win a trophy bar the League Cup.

Nagelsmann Underwhelming

One of their guests would be well connected and he told the podcast that Tottenham were fairly underwhelmed at the lack of preparation put in by Nagelsmann for the job which is essentially a job interview. He didn't research the team all that well and it was like another superstar manager thinking he was more important than the club. A bit like one Conte and one Mourinho who would blame everybody but themselves for the teams performance. Before I heard this I was all for Nagelsmann to succeed Conte but are we going to be in the same position in 18 months time with a manager wanting to leave the club because he thinks he is better than the club. Levy and Scott Munns were seen in the airport on their way to Frankfurt to interview Nagelsmann and maybe Alonso for the role.

Kompany Pleasant Surprise

Another surprise to the board while they interview for the position is how good Vincent Kompany came across. He had a plan, knows the team and could sort out the defence. For a retired Centre Half who would be still twice as good as any of our back line he would be hopefully sort out the dodgy defence. Another strength to Kompany would be his backroom team. One Craig Bellamy stands out as a bloke not to be messes with. A killer. Imagine him in the dressing room. It would be as quiet as a mouse with him there. Any shit and Kompany would unleash Bellamy. I find the fact that Kompany chose Bellamy to be his right hand man says alot more about Kompany then anything. It shows how good of a leader he can be if he employs someone that is a hard man to control himself. I would think the two of them could sort an awful lot of the problems at Tottenham.

Two more candidates

The other two candidates are Ruben Amorim and Xabi Alonso that I mentioned above. I don't know much about Alonso's career but I like what Ruben Amorim is doing at Sporting Lisbon. Young fresh exciting football. Attacking football. That word attacking hasn't been seen since Pochettino. Word on the street is that Poch was not contacted at all for an interview so you would not blame him for listening to offers from the Chelsea mob down the road. Arnie Slot is also a candidate on the short list having guided Feynoord to a league and the final of the Conference League. But dutch managers are flaky. Even with Man United you never know what team is going to turn out.

Not even Called

I mentioned Poch didn't even get a call. The board believed their his last 5 months at the club were not very professional. We don't know what happened behind the scenes. Brendan Rodgers looked to be a candidate but I think his snub the last time around did not go down well with Levy so he wasn't even in the picture.

That Liverpool defeat.

I deflected for as long as I could. The Arsenal and Liverpool supporters can stop here. What team comes back from being 2 - nil down and ultimately lose 3-2. Spurs that's who. Historically we never get a result at Anfield . Ever. It is like Man City and ourselves. Anfield to Tottenham is 3 points lost every year. Liverpool started well and with a shocking defense we went 2 goals down in ten minutes. I thought this was going to be another 6 - 0 defeat but I was pleasantly surprised when Spurs started attacking. 2 all it went to and I was jumping around the place. Then Lucas Moura came on. The man of the moment who will play his final games for Spurs this season. The man of the moment did a no look back pass to Jota of all people and Liverpool went on to win the game. Shocking , just shocking but at least we should effort. On the bright side Richarlison scored his first league goal for Spurs which is a weight off his shoulders. Mason dropped Kane into the number 10 position and he provided Song and Richarlison their chances. Richarlison was playing through the middle and got results but in my opinion he hasn't got the chances this season. He must be watching Sonny and Kuluevski stink out the place and wonder why he isn't getting on. Sonny loses the ball too easily and then all of a sudden the defense are in trouble. But in fairness to Son he is scoring again because he is pushed up more. Son is not a defender and never will be so it is unfair to ask him to sit in midfield and cover the wing back. This is what Conte had him doing. So it is not all doom and gloom.

Bloat Squad

The Athletic have a great piece which shows Spurs players in each position whether it is on loan or not. We are so bloated in central midfield. We have 7 players fighting for 2 positions.

Hojbjerg
Sarr
Bissouma
Skipp
Bentancur
Winks
Ndombele

In the left wing back slot we have 5 players for 1 position

Peresic
Davies
Sessegnon
Reguilon
Udogie

Spurs had 5 managers in the last 5 consecutives years and also 5 Directors of Football so no wonder Spurs are so bloated. So the new manager search is not just about the managers record , it is also about how they would like to play. What if we play 4-4-2. Then there will be no need for wing backs and 8 players in the wing back positions are not suited for their role. Pedro Porro for example is not a right back. He isn't even a wing back because it turns out he cannot defend. So a wing back type system would be favourable or else it is back to square one. But it is either the midfield or wing back positions that need significant attention no matter what manager comes in. Royal for example is a competant right back and he was only just getting used to the wing back position. So to ask him to go back to what he used to know and ignore 9 months of Conte shouting at him is a big ask. I just do not think these problems will be sorted with a new manager coming in. It will take a few years of a consistant project manager. Nagelsmann has been in the limelight in Germany for the last couple of years. They say the Bayern managers job in Germany is the equivalent to having the Man United, Liverpool , Spurs, Chelsea and Man City job combined with the media. The German press are infatuated with Bayern. I lived in Germany for a few years and football is really their only sport. Basketball and Volleyball to a lesser extent but they do not have cricket, Rugby like the British. Football is life out there. So Nagelsmann might fancy a project job rather than the limelight again. Who knows. Whatever the way all these short list managers have some level of excitement about them.

In other news.

Arsenal bottled the league.
