Hello adventure-loving friends! I'm bringing you a post full of beautiful images of the most beautiful landscapes of the Serra da Arrabida. Today we're going to complete one of the longest trails in the area, named (PR 4.1). This trail has the peculiarity of having several extensions and can be done in different directions. Today I completed the NE route towards the village of (Casais), therefore we won't reach the village of "Oleiros", which we already completed in a previous post. Enjoy the best mountain landscapes, as well as the flora and fauna.🗺️🌳

I'm leaving you the coordinates in case you're visiting here one day and want to live the experience: (38.500348, -9.029380) this is exactly on the national road (ER379-1), the trail is really easy! Leaving aside that we'll have a somewhat abrupt descent at the beginning, the rest is all on a fairly easy sandy path! Therefore, on a scale from 1 to 10, I classify it as a difficulty level of 4, preferable in spring or winter with sun. You can bring plenty of water, hiking boots, and walking sticks (optional).🌳🗺️🏔️

The entire path is signposted so it is almost impossible to get lost. When we take the detour at the famous cross, it is then up to us to take the paths we want. I recommend that on that route you place Gmaps in the direction (Casais da Serra) and then just follow one of the paths, while enjoying to the fullest this piece of landscape that the mountains have to offer. We will pass by several small rivers, and we always have the mountains decorating the background of the walk.⛰️🏕️

Some interesting facts about the Oleiros Trail include a set of rules that must be followed, as this entire area is a protected area. You may not remove plants, cause ecological damage, disturb animals, or camp! I recommend reading the rules of conduct before visiting the area. While cycling is permitted, motorized vehicles are not allowed. There are several places to rent and camp in the area; they are not expensive, ranging from 40 to 100 euros per night.🧭

wild boar footprint👨🏻🏫
Among the most interesting observations I made on the walk was photographing the tracks of rabbits, wild boars, and even a mountain fox, as well as different species of trees typical of the more humid forests of the Mediterranean, and a rather peculiar cork oak tree that is obviously hundreds of years old.🌍

The first two kilometers of the trail are the most beautiful for me because you will pass through the forest, there you will see the rivers, many trees with moss, then we will possibly climb about 200 meters towards a hill and we will be in a valley between the two mountains, here we do not see trees but we do see mountains and the landscape changes completely, that is why I liked the trail since there are great changes in the ecology of the place.⛰️⛺🌄

In the hills🧭🚙/En las colinas🌍🏔️

Now we see a more beautiful mountain landscape, but we hardly see any large trees, just pines and eucalyptus trees. And that's what makes the trail special: this abrupt change in scenery! This area had already been inhabited in the Bronze Age. It has a lot of history, and the mountain range dates back millions of years.🏕️🌄
A path among pines🧭🚙/Un camino entre pinos🌍🏔️

Now we pass through a muddy dirt road between pine trees and well, the landscape is more peaceful with a slightly gloomy, fresh air, as you can notice we are getting closer and closer to the base of the mountain.🚩🌄
Did you know?🧭🌳/Sabias que?🌳🌳🏔️

This is a beautiful Quercus suber tree, popular because it's extracted from cork! This tree grows naturally in the Mediterranean and has a life expectancy of up to 250 years. Judging by the shape and size of this one I got, it could be over 100 years old.🏔️🌄🚩

Finally, to conclude my adventure, we reached the third small river, where I sat down to rest while photographing some orchids. Our trail ends here, because behind the river is the village of Casais da Serra. This was the first time I had taken this route, and I really liked it. I would do it again.⛰️🗺️🚩
