Greetings, nature-loving friends! Today we are going to visit a beautiful place in Setubal, in a protected natural area. For the first time, I am going to take the orchid trail. At the beginning of spring, we have the privilege of seeing thousands of orchids throughout the Sierra. You could say it is a unique event that only occurs between March and May. That is why I had to share this experience with you! To make the walk more exciting and fun, I will explain a little about what is special about this orchid and why there is a trail in its name!🌷⛺
Saludos amigos amantes de la naturaleza! hoy vamos a visitar un hermoso lugar dentro de Setubal en un area de proteccion natural, por primera vez voy a realizar el sendero de las orquideas, la cual en inicio de primavera tenemos el privilegio de ver miles de ellas en toda la Sierra, podria decirse que es un evento unico y que solo se da de marzo-mayo por eso si o si tenia que compartir esta experiencia con ustedes! para hacer la caminata mas emocionante y divertida te explicare un poco QUE TIENE DE ESPECIAL ESTA ORQUIDEA y porque hay un sendero a su nombre!.🧭🏕️
Beginning of the trail🧭🌷/Comienzo del sendero🌍🌄
The trail starts at the following coordinates: (38.500359, -9.029374) next to the main street that goes to the center of Setubal, here I recommend that you follow the sign that says: "Oleiros" a trail that we have already done previously, only for the orchid path we must make a detour where there is a cross at the third crossing on the right, as you can see the initial photo the land is huge with more than 30 square km, surrounded by mountains for me the landscapes are top and one of the motivations for the walk along with the orchids, tips: (hiking boots, hiking poles, snacks and water). If you did not manage to buy supplies for your walk you can get to: (YMCA Camp Alambre) less than 2km away and you can pay by card, then you return to the starting point.⛺🗺️
El sendero inicia en la siguientes coordenadas: (38.500359, -9.029374) al lado de la calle principal que va hacia el centro de Setubal, aqui te recomiendo que acompanes la senalizacion que dice: "Oleiros" un sendero que ya hicimos anteriormente, solo que para el camino de las orquideas debemos hacer un desvio donde esta una cruz en el tercer cruce a la derecha, como ves la foto inicial el terreno es enorme con mas de 30km cuadrados, rodeado de montanas para mi los paisajes son top y una de las motivaciones de la caminata junto con las orquideas, consejos: (botas de excursion, bastones de excursion, snack y agua). Si no conseguistes comprar insumos para tu caminata puedes llegar al: (YMCA Camp Alambre) a menos de 2km y puedes pagar con tarjeta, luego te devuelves al punto inicial.🌳🚙🚩

The weather today was crazy! It rained, cleared up, became sunny, then rained again! It was literally like that all afternoon! The weather is normal for this time of year in Portugal. April is a rainy month, but personally, it's a good choice because it's not so hot, and you can see some small rivers that form in the mountains and serve as food and shelter for various animals. Today I saw a rabbit and a wild boar. There's no road, everything is sand.🌳🗺️
El clima hoy fue una locura! llovia, escampaba, hacia sol, llovia de nuevo! literalmente fue asi toda la tarde! normal el clima a esta epoca en Portugal, abril es un mes con lluvia, pero en lo personal es una buena opcion porque no hace tanto calor, y puedes ver algunos pequenos rios que se forman en la Sierra y que sirven como alimento y refugio de varios animales, hoy vi un conejo, y un jabali, no hay carretera todo es arena.🧭
Orchis papilionacea🌷👨🏻🏫
I didn't go 200 meters and I already found four specimens of the beautiful orchid Orchis papilionacea. This species is simply too beautiful and one of my favorites! The best time to walk the orchid trail is in April when they're all in bloom. You might be wondering, but what's so special about this plant? It doesn't actually exist in the north of the country and is "rare to see." Now, if you're "rare" to see something, imagine passing through a place with thousands of them.🌍
no pasaron 200 metros y ya me consigo cuatro ejemplares de la hermosa orquidea Orchis papilionacea, esta especie es demasiado bonita y una de mis favoritas! la mejor epoca para hacer el sendero de las orquideas es en abril cuando todas estan florescidas, y te preguntaras pero que tiene de especial esta planta? en realidad no existe en el norte del pais y es "rara de ver". Ahora algo "raro" de ver imaginate pasar por un lugar con miles?✍🏻🗺️
Importance of the nature reserve🧭🌷/Importancia de la reserva natural🌍🌄
These images sum it all up! The great importance of the protected area to ensure the protection and maintenance of the species: Orchis papilionacea L. which, as you can see, does not exist in the north of the country and, out of curiosity, the mountain range where I am now is the geographical area where it is most abundant in all of Portugal! This interesting fact will motivate you to take the orchid trail because you will not be able to see anything like it in the entire country, much less all year round! It goes without saying that you cannot remove any plants here and be careful where you step; this species is sensitive to footsteps.🧭🌷
Estas imagenes resumen todo! la gran importancia que tiene el area protegida para asegurar la proteccion y mantenimiento de la especie: Orchis papilionacea L. que como puedes ver en el norte del pais no existe y por curiosidad la sierra donde estoy ahora es el espacio geografico donde mas abunda en todo el territorio Portugues! este interesante dato te motivara hacer el camino de la orquidea por que no podras ver algo parecido en todo el pais, y menos durante todo el ano! esta demas decirte que no puedes extraer ninguna planta por aqui y ten cuidado donde pisas esta especie es sensible a las pisadas.🌳🚩

Quite a spectacle! They're so small that you can't really appreciate them from a distance. But I'll show you with my phone, and using a filter to enhance the color, you can see that there are more than 50 orchids in an area just under 200 meters across! Imagine them over a 2-kilometer stretch, which is the exact area where they're most abundant.🌳🌷🧭
Todo un espectaculo son tan pequenas que con una foto a distancia no se aprecian mucho pero con el telefono les muestro y usando un filtro para resaltar el color fijense que hay mas de 50 orquideas en una zona de apenas poco menos de 200 metros! imagenense en 2km de extension que es el espacio exacto donde se ven con mayor cantidad.⛺🌄🏕️
Regarding the orchid, my identification book refers to it as a "rare" species, meaning it's not common to see it in Portugal. It prefers alkaline to dry-humid soils and doesn't adapt to cold or very rainy climates. What caught my attention was that it grows in open spaces with little vegetation! As we've seen so far, it grows up to 60 cm and blooms from March to May.⛺🧭🌷
Sobre la orquidea mi libro de identificacion se refiere como una especie "rara" osea no es comun de ver en Portugal, prefiere los suelos alcalinos desde seco-humenos, no se adapta a climas frios o muy lluviosos. Me llamo la atencion que crece en espacios abiertos y con poca vegetacion! tal y como lo hemos visto hasta ahora, crece hasta 60cm y florece de marzo a mayo.🌳🚙
So far, I've loved the experience along the orchid trail. The aroma in the air is incredible, as aromatic plants like rosemary also grow. It's not a difficult walk and allows you to relax and enjoy nature! Is it ideal for the whole family? Of course! Just be careful on rainy days because it's very muddy.🌷🚩

Here the hike ends. It was a total of 4 km and a 3-hour walk along the trail! I loved it! I'd never seen so many orchids together. I highly recommend this place if you're in the southern part of Lisbon. Today we learned about the impact a species can have within a protected area. We saw beautiful landscapes! We also learned about the orchid Orchis papilionacea L., and I stopped to eat a delicious homemade salad while taking photos of the mountains.✍🏻🌄🌷
aqui culmina la caminata, en total fueron 4km y 3horas paseando entre el sendero! me encanto nunca habia visto tantas orquideas juntas, te recomiendo el lugar si estas en la zona sur de Lisboa, hoy aprendimos el impacto que puede tener una especie dentro de un area protegida, vimos hermosos paisajes! asi como aprendimos sobre la orquidea Orchis papilionacea L, hice una parada para comer una deliciosa ensalada cacera mientras tomaba fotos de la sierra.🚩🚙

En cuanto a las orquídeas, es cierto que crecen preferentemente en un clima determinado, pero, la naturaleza es así y, muchas veces, nos regala maravillas como estas.

How much I enjoy the @worldmapping community because the creators give us publications that almost always deal with trips to natural paradises like these. Some of you who have read my posts know of my love for nature, because as a Geography teacher it is one of my life goals.
The images you show paint a very beautiful picture and beyond the beauty of the orchids I see a very beautiful ecosystem, with a green and well-kept flora, despite the type of soil, and a flora that goes beyond the rabbit and the wild boar.
As for orchids, it is true that they grow preferably in a certain climate, but, nature is like that and, many times, gives us wonders like these.

Sabes tú post súper bonito amigo, siempre me ha gustado el tema de las caminatas y recorridos de camping 🏕. En mi ciudad en la zona de Pinar del Rio, existe un lugar llamado Viñales que hay muchas orquídeas te lo recomiendo si vienes de visita y acampar es espectacular bro.
