October 6 2022 - A slow day at home

avatar

I stayed at home today and worked from my home office. I needed a rest after a late night yesterday.

I was going to do some exercise but didn't get around to it. So my step count is low today.

I had to give some bad news to someone at work. I always find it hard. I'm not sure of there is an easy way. At least, unless you are heartless and then it perhaps easy.

Any tips on how to give bad news?

A slow day at home when you need rest sounds like a good idea.

@awah

As for giving bad news i find it is best to be direct,

"Sorry to be the one to have to tell you but blah blah blah, if there is anything we can do to help you, you can always let Human Resources know" 🤣

I don't know the situation mate you just have to read it, but there is never a easy way to deliver bad news unfortunately.

Have the best weekend

I agree, honesty is best. I also usually do some soft intro like you suggest. "You are not going to like this but...." Gets them ready for what we are about to tell them.

Have a great weekend

Aside from being straightforward and direct about it, I do not believe there's any good way to deliver bad news. #sadtruth it is what it is. Being tactful helps I guess.
Happy weekend! :)

I think consolation and words of hope will help.
Making the person believe that is not the end of the world.
No matter what life happens and we should be brave to accept it.

In my opinion though.
Hahaha
Good luck with it.

I guess you could try the Positive Negative Sandwich. This is a popular method in the corporate world.

It is, and it can help but can sometimes feel superficial. I guess choosing the positives carefully.

Yes, that is very true. Sometimes we feel as though we are having a David Brent moment. !WINE

Putting yourself in the person's position, will help you know how to deliver the news.

Interesting. I do always try to understand how the other person feels. However, sometimes you don't know the full story of what's going on in someone's head. I guess at least we can be empathetic.

I agree with you.
We can't place or know what's running through the other person's head.
We just have to be empathetic.

Hmnnn, use story telling to pass the information.

For me, I try to put myself in the person's shoe while hitting the nail directly on the head. Bad news is not easy to accept but the best thing is to say is t directly and be there to encourage the person.
