July 3 2022 - A walk on the beach ⛱️
Today I woke up in my cozy hotel in Newcastle and went down to breakfast to plan my day. I decide to go out to the coast and walk along the beach at Whitley Bay.
The weather was cloudy but it wasn't cold. We walked out to St. Mary's Lighthouse which stands at the end of the bay on an outcrop of rocks. Its quite impressive. There we see some seals on the rocks. You can just see them in the photo below.
We then walked back down the beach and found a takeaway food van. We bought chips and gravy and chips and curry sauce. These are very northern. You won't find them on sale in the south of England.

Ah! Newcastle. I had to drive up there several times in 2020 as my daughter was expecting at that time! I was traveling back home on the first day of lockdown! It was weird!

What exactly is gravy? I understand chips are French fries, is gravy ketchup? Sorry for my ignorance 😃 the pictures are gorgeous!

Its a form of sauce made from meat stock, in this case from beef. Its not quite as thick and viscous as ketchup. It's thinner like a thick soup. The British usually put it over roasted meat. In the North of England they also serve it over chips. Which are French Fries. Although traditional British chips are thicker than French Fries.
