Back in the Desert: February 10 2025
Long Day Ahead
Today is that day. Bitter-sweet, as we bid our family in PH goodbye while looking forward to reuniting with my hubs back in the UAE.
We started off early since Manila traffic is very unpredictable. While 2 hours is really the expected travel time (without traffic) from our place to the airport, we agreed to leave home at 4am.
Our flight was at 12:00pm, and we are encouraged to be at the airport at least 4 hours prior. Our trip was uninterrupted, and we arrived at 6:00am. Now, I can breathe easy. No more rush. We're already at the airport.
We had breakfast first, then we started with our checkin process at 8.00am. It was so tiring. The queue was long-- at the check in counters, and moreso at the immigration.
We reached the gates one hour before boarding time, which was 11.20am. Finally, a breather- a chance rest our already tired feet from all that standing in queue and walking. I also took the opportunity to refill our tumblers with drinking water.
We were already beyond exhausted, but we can't give up yet. We had a 10-hour flight ahead of us. 😵💫🥴
The flight was full, and argghhh, just it was too hard to sleep.
Finally, after almost 10 hours, the plane started its descent, and yep, that's really desert you see outside the window.
Spot the Burj Khalifa!
Finally, Back in the Desert.
Thankfully, since I had children traveling with me, we were able to skip the line and got priority at the immigration counters.
We were out there fast, although if you've been to Dubai Aiport, you know that it's still going to be a long walk ahead plus a train to get to the exits. 😛
We only had 1 check-in luggage, which we fortunately got easily. Our car lift that would drive us back to Abu Dhabi was already waiting.
Another 2 hours on the road, and we were home.
It was such a long day, and I even had to start working barely an hour after we arrived. Thankfully, my boss gave me the resr of day off after our meeting (2:00am my time!), I was able to catch on some much needed sleep.
So yeah, I guess that's it. We're back in the desert. Lots of things to do. I think, to some extent, some normalcy to the kids, since for them, this is what they're really used to.
As for me, I am already missing home and its luscious greenery. 💚
How about you, how was your day?
Hope it was not as tiring was mine.
Cheers,
Arlyn
