NYE Hang-Over and A Long Overdue Meetup
NYE Hang-over
Following our NYE escapade which I shared yesterday, most of my steps from 1st January were from walking back from the promenade at the Corniche where we watched the fireworks from, going to the spot where we parked the car.
It took us a long time before we were able to finally leave the promenade, but before that, let me share a shot of the night earlier with the beautiful moon trying to catch our attention before the fireworks.
Anyway, we did not leave the area immediately after the 15-minutes fireworks finished because we knew that the tens of thousands of people had nowhere to go but to cross the road.
We were waiting at near the pedestrian crossing, but we realized that even if the pedestrian lights turned green, nobody was allowed to cross. That could have been over 20 minutes that we were stuck there, just waiting.
"This is not worth it," Little Man's enthusiasm from earlier already faded. He was exhausted and sleepy, which was understandable. It was close to 1 am already. I, myself, was also just trying my best to hold myself up together. I've been awake for almost 20 hours already by then.
I was curious at what was going on in front of us, I tried to take a photo, just look at that!
Finally, we were allowed to cross already. The sea of people flowed through and the next we knew it, people already overtook all the lanes of the road.
We walked up the Khaleej Al Arabi Street up to the spot where we left the car. It was not a designated parking spot, so I was praying the whole time that I did not get a parking ticket, or worse, our car got towed. If in case there would be lots of cars towed that night. LOL.
A Meet Up After 19 years
Around 2:00 PM, I after the hubs and I just came home from buying some stuff to fix the leakage in our kitchen sink, I got a call from an old colleague of mine. She was the accountant at the public high school I used to work in before coming to Abu Dhabi.
She comes to Dubai every now and then because her husband is currently deployed there for a project. They were in Abu Dhabi for a tour, and she called me just to let me know.
We did not meet when I came home to the Philippines late last year (that sounds odd, writing that to refer to 2023!) so I decided to meet her at the Heritage Village near the Marina Breakwater, where they stopped over after they came from the Grand Mosque.
It was a quick catch up since they were not to stay long there at Heritage Village. They had many other places to visit during their City Tour.
Regardless, I was glad to meet her again after almost 19 years. Though we last saw each other in April 2005 when I left the Philippines, it felt like we it was just very recent.
