My Actifit Report Card: December 22 2024: Weekend Activities - Grill Repair

As we are crunch time for our Christmas dinner plans, it was imperative to fix my Traeger pellet smoker in order to cook our much anticipated Texas brisket dinner. I ordered a couple parts off of ebay but was able to install a replacement auger motor today. Now we are taking it for a test run.

Now we are cooking with 🔥

It's burning pellets while I have been burning calories running around all day.

It started in the morning when I went to buy another part, albeit one that is not as essential. It was the wheel caster for the grill that had sadly broken in half after getting lodged between my truck bed and tailgate during an unload mishap.

I first went to Harbor Freight but learned that the screw holes would not line up which would have meant I would have to drill through the metal. I didn't favor that option so sought out an alternative. Home Depot was the answer.

Rigid and Swivel caster - highly jpeg-ified

It was a bit less than ideal; however, as they only had swivel casters when I needed a rigid so it would turn unnecessarily. The way it is designed is swivels on one side and rigids (wheels do not pivot) on the other. Nevertheless, I installed the new caster as my primary concern is the grill tipping to the side with the broken one which it has done.

Prior to this, I had cut some tempered plywood with a circular saw after tracing the outline of our kitchen drawer bases that needed replacement. It was really surprising how shoddy the inserts were so was glad to be replacing them with something more sturdy. All in all, it was a successful close to the weekend. We'll see how dinner turns out!

Thanks for stopping by ✌️

Forgot to mention. The chicken breast had been marinated in Morton Nashville Hot marinade I scored from Big Lots on clearance. The pork steaks were put in a spicy Korean BBQ marinade. Both overnight.

I was introduced to Nashville hot because KFC used to have a fried chicken variant that came with pickles and was oh so good in it's greasy glory. Hopefully, this will help scratch that itch as it has since been discontinued.

OMG, I’ve played that caster game before. It was frustrating, but I still wish everything was on locking casters. 🤣

Thankfully, they do lock so don't think I will have too much trouble with the swivel. Brisket is marinating now.

I used red wine, worcestershire, garlic, onion, rosemary, homegrown basil, balsamic vinegar, salt and papper in the marinade. Excited to see how it turns out. Have a Merry Christmas, bro!
