The Queen and I: September 16 2023
St Neots Living History Festival
Yesterday was a special event at the Market Square which I had almost forgotten about although I had it in my calendar; I happened to drive home via the High Street which I don't often do as it's usually pretty busy at weekends and it was still going for another hour, so I parked up at home and went back for a stroll.
It was a lovely display organised by the St Neots Museum. I went backwards in time as I must have picked the end of the stalls with the newer stuff, never mind.
A First World War Officer explaining his weapon.
Followed by a lady wearing a dress of the forties with a variety of items from the day which the lady in blue was very excited to spot, toys among them
Someone admiring these rifles on display; not a fan myself, but guess the technology is intriguing |
And right next to the rifles the stall with items to fix the wounded; how appropriate |
The man in the desert showing some landmines; if I understood him correctly did he secure them himelf.
Moving on to the 1800s - the Napoleonic wars.
On the table behind were displays of army formations, tiny needles representing soldiers; I forgot to take a picture, it had been a long day.
More weapon admiration..
..which can make you tired. Some officers having a break.
From the weapons to the more peaceful beauties during the early 1800s.
A Singer sewing machine and a lady of the romantic period making lace.
The tools required and some fine material demonstrating the result of all the intricate work.
Her dress was puffed up with wide shoulders and the skirt fairly bulky to make for a slim looking waist, the fashion of the romantic period which was called Biedermeier in Germany.
Meeting Queen Victoria! I forgot to ask if the gentleman on the left was her husband Albert but I pretty much believe he was..
It wouldn't make sense of course as we are looking at the widowed Victoria.
She was the real deal! When I asked if I could put my arm around her shoulder she said in a very royal manner "Certainly NOT!" 🤣
Jumping back in time a little it appears - we meet Mr Newton showing us some of his drawings. Apparently did he make his major discoveries about gravity and such like within one year 1665/66 when his university in Cambridge was closed during lockdown..
No, not Covid, something much worse: the plague!
And lastly a few images from the middle ages and before
Soldiers of the Robin Hood era. |
Weaving and leather crafting. |
Romans with pots, pans and paper as a sun shield lol |
These people tried to convince me that I REALLY wanted to sit on that bench and get my neck and arms stuck in the holes.. I politely declined.. haha
A bit of very late lunch or early dinner on the way home, macaroni cheese. I don't have that very often and very much enjoyed it.
That's it for today; Thanks for looking!

It's quite a cool hobby. I'm not one for dressing up but I like all the craft stuff they do and all the historic facts they know.
Hehe, that looks fun. I know who I think looks the better Queen!! 🤣
🤣😂🤣
I think that's a civil war matlock - I was running a training course a few years back and one of tbe guys did a 'how to koad and fire' microteach - tbere's about 20 stages to it - bought one in and I loved it!
Ah, that's cool! 20 stages, that's incredible.
Sorry, you had one like that?
Do you still?
Ah no just someone brought one into a training course I was running, not mine! Loved it though!
