The Guard Dogs of Catherine of Aragon's Last Residence

(Edited)

Kimbolton has never been on my list of places to visit, but the weather was nice today and a little drive from my home took us through it.
What a surprise it was indeed!

Without venturing too far away from the High Street we enjoyed a short walk up to Kimbolton School, part of Kimbolton Castle, and the church at the other end.

Through the gate of Kimbolton School

Catherine of Aragon's lived at the castle after her divorce from Henry VIII and died there in 1536; her bedroom was the middle window on the right and is now the headmasters office.

Meet the security dogs of the estate; they were walking their human (not in the picture) who told us about the connection to the former Queen.

Walking back towards the school to stop for a coffee at The New Sun Inn before heading home.

As Kimbolton isn't very far from St Neots at all we shall return to try the pub right next door to this one and see what we find a little further away from the High Street.

Thanks for looking!

What a lovely exploration. Definitely I would love to take a walk at such kind of location to know the history more. The coffee shop definitely seems cozy...

Thanks for sharing your day :) Take care...

Thank you!
It was lovely indeed;such a surprising find and that the security guard was walking his dogs and chatting with us.
I would have missed the Queen
connection otherwise..

So cool! Ilove old buildings and a bit of history to boot. Guarded by such savage creatures too! :OD

I'm not sure I've been there, but it looks nice. Catherine is buried in Peterborough cathedral. Enjoy the sunshine. I'm down south again, so will miss the jam.

Oh, ok, have fun working at the seaside then.. 🙂

Guess, you're another one thinking, why would you go to Kimbolton.. 😉
It's obviously not far from me and easy to get to. I'll sure go another time, maybe there is more to explore.. or not. We'll see.

I keep saying I should cycle more. I could get the train part way to places like this. I'll wait until the weather improves.

Good idea! You can take the bike on the train.. We've done that a few times, works really well..
