Lawn and Table tennis training, and my plans for the upcoming university games
That’s Kelvin on the right and me on the left
Hello friends of the Exhaust community!!
Last year was not so goo for me in terms of sports as I saw my engagement in sports activities decline drastically. sometimes during the year I played basketball(which i'm still very poor at) and jogged in the mornings, but there just wasn't enough consistency with the exercise and if I'm being honest I must say 90% of the times i worked out last year, i did so because I felt like I was going to get sick or I felt like I was getting out of shape, and that's simply not good enough.
I now realize that a major contributor to my lackadaisical attitude towards exercise was that fact that i wasn't really enjoying myself during my workouts.
Exercise is meant to be regular and enjoyable, not seen as a chore or just a solution to a problem...
To this end I have decided to resume my tennis playing.
I stopped playing tennis over 2 years ago... Not due to a lack of interest though. The tennis courts in my school have never seen proper maintenance in their life and that has seen the nets all go bad and the court(hard) crack open in some places.
This year however we have the Nation University Games(NUGA) tournament coming up on the 26th. I have been contacted by the table tennis and lawn tennis coaches to represent my uni in those games but i'm more incline towards Badminton and lawn tennis.
Tomorrow I'm leaving for school and the first thing I'll have to do is sign up for the games since...
Wish me luck!!!
My training routine for earlier today
I met my friend Kevin who happens to be the under 18 no1 seed in my state at the court in my uncle's place today and got the chance to play with him.
This was the order of events in our training
- We started off with some cardio workouts and light stretches.
- Table Tennis warm up drills and games: We played 4 sets of best of threes out of which i won 3 sets.
- Lawn tennis: we played 2 sets of best 3, sadly Kevin won all sets (6-3, 6-1) & (6-4, 6-1)... very embarrassing.
There's a pool just outside where the court is so we streched out in the pool in between and afterwards, it was a really hot day.
My observations
I didn't expect to do much better than i did today, even though i was very disappointed. I'm sure i'll get back to my usual game before the tournament begins.
To that end I will resume a regular personal training routine to boost up my fitness levels. Team training for Badminton is set for 2 nights a week plus saturday mornings and for lawn tennis it's 3 times a week plus saturday evenings.
Wish me luck.
Playing sports with friends and setting a target make it more interesting and fun.
I can't wait for the NUGA games to start, but till it's over, i'll get exhausted everyday.
