Visiting Tel Aviv's Museum of Art - 12k activity - My Actifit Report Card: May 9 2023

Hello and welcome to yesterday's #actifit activity report¹

Yesterday was a national Museums Day. On this day almost all the museums across Israel are open to the public for free. I used this opportunity to visit one of my favorites museums, the "Tel Aviv Museum of Art".

This is one of the biggest museums in Israel, it is home to modern and contemporary art from around the world and Israel. It features permanent Old Masters collection, impressionism collection, post-impressionism collection and temporary collections.

I find that the temporary collections are the most interesting because they are modern and offer variety of styles. The subject matter is also closer to modern life.

I will share the artworks that I found to be the most interesting to me.

Material Imagination

The three galleries of Israeli art unfold three chapters: Promised Land, Airship, and Blazing Movement. Each chapter examines the works through a host of associations arising from the artworks' materials or elemental images²

Note the unique techniques used in creation of this artwork. Basalt powder on oil paint created a 3d topography that offers another dimension to the artwork.

The symbols are vaguely familiar with some resemble hebrew letters, some shapes of people and some are abstract. I spent quite a bit of time enjoying and examining this artwork.

Vera Vladimirsky: Sand Wall

Her photographs combine documentation, memory, yearning and fiction, and through them she composes a new narrative that examines the concept of “home.”²

I found this collection to be especially interesting and mind-bending.

A History of Beauty: Helena Rubinstein’s Miniature Rooms

The 17 unique and stunning miniature rooms collected by Helena Rubinstein (1870–1965), the founder of the beauty empire bearing her name. These rooms, which were originally displayed in the collector’s home in 1935, represent a tradition of miniature houses, which first emerged in Germany and Holland in the 17th century, with the aim of enchanting and astonishing their viewers.²

Notice the amount of detailed objects.

My favorite photo of the day

I love the use of space by the artist. The wall is painted in a gradient of purple and the artwork is placed in the center.
