A Refreshing and Meditative Morning Walk / 日曜朝の瞑想散歩 (My Actifit Report Card: February 9 2025)

On Sundays, I usually write my Garden Journal, but since my family is traveling this weekend, I had some extra time to do my own. So, I decided to go for a morning walk and make a post on @actifit.

I've learned that exposing oneself to morning light—especially sunlight that contains blue light—triggers serotonin production in the brain. About 14 to 16 hours later, it turns into melatonin (the sleep hormone), naturally making us feel sleepy. Since discovering this, I’ve been trying to go outside in the mornings whenever possible.

Fortunately, I don’t have any sleep issues, but since I love sleeping, I wouldn’t mind improving it even more. On weekdays, I try to step outside when I bring my daughter to school, and on weekends, I try to get some sunlight on the balcony. But while writing this, I just realized that blue light is the key—so maybe looking at my phone in the morning works too? 😅 Though that doesn’t seem like the healthiest habit...

Initially, my plan was to stop by a bakery, grab some bread, and enjoy it in the park with some tea. However, I completely underestimated the -2°C temperature. The benches were frozen, and the only ones staying in one spot were kids playing in the sandbox. So, I ended up eating while walking and took a lap around the park instead.

The park’s pond was frozen, and the air was freezing cold, but the clear blue sky made for a refreshing walk. The crisp air and the bright, cloudless sky felt invigorating.

Usually, I wear my noise-canceling headphones like earmuffs and listen to audiobooks or podcasts. But today, I decided to enjoy a meditative walk with no input. Today marks the final day of my journey through The Artist’s Way, a workbook for rediscovering creativity that I’ve been following since November. One of the most memorable exercises in the book was a break from consuming information, so I wanted to embrace that feeling on my walk. It was such a great book that I’m planning to write a review sometime next week to Hive Book Club.

Before I go, here’s a photo of an interesting sculpture in the park. It looks like some kids gave it a fresh coat of color with chalk. I think the rain will wash it away eventually, so it was a nice smile maker in the end of the walk.

Wishing you all a wonderful Sunday!
