(My Actifit Report Card: July 28 2024)
We came to Berlin as a family because my partner had a 10-kilometer race. Although Berlin is just over an hour away from our city by high-speed train, due to construction and detours, it took us more than two hours to arrive.
Despite the long journey, Berlin is always a delight! This time, my partner's race was in West Berlin, so we stayed at a hotel there. Since my partner and my daughter wanted to take rest at home, I explored the shops in the vicinity alone.
Japanese MUJI is one of the stores I always visit when I come to Berlin. I bought two small plates that are hard to find in Germany, a stand for a cutting board, and a travel pouch. I particularly love the spacious upper floor of MUJI.
Next, I visited Uniqlo but couldn’t find any dresses from the Marimekko collaboration. So, I left without buying anything and headed to Germany's largest department store, KaDeWe.
I wanted to see the lightweight Rimowa suitcases in real. Unfortunately, they were shinier than I had expected, which wasn’t to my taste. Nonetheless, I appreciated having a place to see the actual products in this era of online shopping.
As always, in Berlin, I easily walked over 10,000 steps just by seeing through the stores.
Back at the hotel, my partner set off for the race. He managed to run faster than he expected and expressed a desire to go on more race trips like this in the future.
That was our stay and my stroll in Berlin 😊
Have a nice Sunday, everyone!

Hi @akippon ツ
Way back in 1991-92 I lived in Berlin for about 9 months and worked as an English Language teacher, so I was interested to read your post... I chuckled when I read that your first stop was Mujirushi because I live in Hiroshima and there is a BIG Mujirushi store a few stops up the tramline from where I live. Then you mentioned Uniqlo! LOL! Yeah, I like Uniqlo too.
It was only when I scrolled down and saw the Japanese half of the post that I realized it was not such a big coincidence!
I'd love to go back to Berlin and see how much things have changed. Mujirushi and Uniqlo certainly weren't in Berlin in the early 90s!

Wow so you know real old Berlin. I was there for the first time in 2011. I was living in Berlin 2015-2016. We couldn't find our next home and moved to Leipzig ... My friend told me 2000s was really interesting time with a lot of artists and creative people doing their own. Then gentrification comes 😢
Haha I envy that Muji is everywhere in Japan! They have so many nice convenient goods for home use.
When I lived there, the old East Berlin still looked and felt very different from West Berlin. I rented an incredibly cheap apartment in Warschauer Strasse, in East Berlin. It was a sub-let, not a full rental contract because tenants tended to keep hold of their contract with the landlord, and let out the apartment through sub-letting agencies. It was easy to find a place for a short term stay, but without any rights.
When I left Berlin, a few months later, several buildings had already been renovated on Warschauer Strasse, but all the time I was there an abandoned traband lay on its side at the end of the street!
Good memories.
