Teaming up for my partner’s weight loss / 家族で取り組む相方のダイエット(My Actifit Report Card: July 25 2024)

My partner, a former professional track and field athlete (800/1500m runnner), retired over ten years ago, and lately, I've noticed a bit of a belly forming. Their arms and legs are still thin, almost like a stick figure drawn by a child with a round body and limbs sticking out. However, upon closer inspection yesterday, I realized even their once slender thighs are starting to get a bit pudgy.

For the past few years, I've been puzzled by how they could eat so much yet only occasionally go for a run without gaining weight. Recently, I've come to the conclusion that their visceral fat has maxed out, and subcutaneous fat is starting to accumulate. It's not about having a naturally thin physique or family genetics.

When we started living together about ten years ago, his eating habits surprised me. Breakfast was bread with chocolate spread, lunch was a sandwich with a few leaves of arugula, sweets and snacks, and dinner was meat and bread with a few carrot sticks. I couldn't believe someone could eat so little vegetables and still be healthy ...

I wanted him to live a long life, so I encouraged a more balanced diet, including more vegetables and a variety of foods. He eventually started eating a lot better.

Now, we're facing the challenge of middle-aged weight gain and fat accumulation. My partner exercises and enjoys physical activities, so the problem is clearly overeating. I believe with careful calorie calculation, he can lose the extra weight. However, I often catch him snacking in the kitchen, munching on things like snacks that have 500+ calories per 100 grams, drinking sugary sport drink, or eating a sandwich just before bed 😱 When properly recorded, I guess his intake easily reaches 3000 calories a day. Even if he burns a few hundred calories by running occasionally, it’s still an obvious calorie surplus.

A bit of a belly doesn’t bother me at all, but my daughter and I wish him to live long. So, I’ve decided to become the "calorie police" 😁 I’ll start by tracking everything and making them face the reality. I also plan to follow my own advice, watch my eating habits, and stay active.

元プロの陸上選手で、引退して10年と少しの相方ですが、最近お腹が出てきました。手足はまだ細くて、まさに子供が描く丸い体から線が飛び出た棒人間のようです。でも、昨日よく見たら、細かった足も太腿からぷよぷよし始めているような・・・。

この数年、なんで時々走りに行くくらいで、その上食べに食べても太らないのだろうと疑問に思っていたのですが、最近、内臓脂肪がつききって、皮下脂肪もつき始めたのかなという考えにいたりました。太らない家系とか体質とかそんなのではなく。

10年ほど前に一緒に暮らし始めた頃は、朝ご飯はチョコレートスプレッドを塗ったパン、昼ご飯はサンドイッチにルッコラが数枚、夜は夜で肉とパンにニンジンスティックをちょっとカリカリみたいな食事をしていて驚きました。人間ってこんなにちょっとしか野菜を食べなくても生きていられるんだ!と。

野菜をはじめもっといろいろなものを食べて長生きをしてほしいなと思って食事改善に取り組んでずいぶんいろいろ食べるようになりました。

今度は中年太りと脂肪問題です。相方は運動はしているし、体を動かすのは苦ではないようなので、明らかに食べ過ぎです。しっかりカロリー計算をして慣れていけば減ると思うのですが、気づくとキッチンで何かをカリカリたべているんですよね。10gで50キロカロリーもあるスナック菓子とか。夜寝る直前にサンドイッチとか・・・。きちんと記録したら3000キロカロリーくらい余裕で食べていて、これでは時々走ってたとえ数百キロカロリーを消費しても、明らかにカロリーオーバーです。

ちょっとお腹が出るくらい私は全然気にならないのですが、早死にしたら子供がかわいそうなので、カロリーポリスになろうと思います。まずは記録して、現実を直視してもらいます。

私も人のふり見て我がふりなおせ、食べ過ぎには注意して、相方を見習って体を動かそうと思います。

余談: 最近YouTubeで『ロジカルダイエット』という本の著者のインタビューを見ました。カロリー計算に基づく内容に納得して、書籍も読んでみて、試してみたところスッコーンと1キロ落ちました。詳しくはnoteに書いたのでよかったらどうぞ!

読ませていただいて人のこととはいえ心配になってきました。野菜中心のメニューにして、1日3食とちょっとのお菓子、ぐらいの生活に切り替えた方がいいと思います。私が実践している食生活です。

昼と夜は野菜中心のメニューなのですが、いかんせん量が多くて・・・パスタ乾麺で200gとかって日本の標準量の倍ですよね 😅 私が男性ではないので脂肪のつき方など想像の限りなのですが、、、
