Tyler Boyd Signing Makes the Titans Receiving Core Really Good! In theory...

A few weeks back, the Titans signed a very solid high level #3 receiver in Tyler Boyd.

I do think it's a great signing! He could even be an average #2 receiver honestly. Looking at his stats, it surprised me that he did have two consecutive 1,000 yard seasons back in 2018-2019. I thought he was a 600-800 receiving yards a season yard type of receiver. Besides those two seasons nearly five years ago, Boyd has been that type of receiver. This type of production is really a big compliment in my opinion. The first half of his career he spent with pretty poor quarterback play as a Cincinnati Bengal, and then once Joe Burrow did arrive, Boyd had to share the ball with Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, two elite receivers.

Boyd interview starts at 15:06.

So now Boyd joins Calvin Ridley and DeAndre Hopkins, once again, just like in Cincinnati, two pretty elite/high level receivers.

In theory if all three players actually managed to stay healthy for an entire seventeen game season, there's no reason that these guys can't put up big numbers in 2024.

By season's end the trio will have an average age of 30.6666 years old. A lot of people may say that this is a bit too old, but maybe this could be a good thing, they could all be in their prime. The sheer experience all three of these vets can provide could overwhelm opposing secondaries.

Even if there's a chance these guys start declining or get injured, there's still THREE of them. If all three get catastrophically injured well, that's just crap luck. Overall, these guys have been pretty healthy.

I also think this could be the best thing for the Titans younger receivers that were drafted by the Robinson/Vrabel era. Third year players like Treylon Burks and Kyle Philips have sort of been asked to do a lot in recent seasons and they probably simply weren't ready for that. Fifth year receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine is also a valuable piece for depth. NWI is simply one of the more respected players on the Titans.

The Titans now enter 2024 with a solid layer of experienced, skilled, and established vets with Ridley-Hopkins-Boyd, and I like the idea of having Burks-Philips-NWI as 4-5-6 on the WR depth chart. It also gives those last three guys an actual chance to stay healthy deeper into the season. Burks and Philips in particular have been quite injury prone.

Between Josh Whyle and Chig Okonkwo, I believe the Titans are solid at TE, especially with the outstanding potential of these receivers.

I never really got around to writing about the Boyd signing, so I just had to make a post about it, glad I finally did so. Boyd could really end up being the ultimate luxury for this offense.

If Levis can't produce with these type of receivers around him, it will be pretty disappointing.

This season needs to hurry up! It's been a wild off-season for Titans fans, but it's been at the very least interesting and somehow the Titans are putting together a seriously competitive roster!!

#TITANUP!
