Titans keep core players around by extending OLB Harold Landry III and C Ben Jones!

Ah man, seeing these two players get extended is really pretty epic. In the past six or seven years or so the Titans have been trying to positively transform the culture on the team, and it's been working so far. By extending Landry and Jones I think it makes a cool statement toward what qualities the Titans want in their players.

Obviously, both Landry and Jones are very talented at football. But on top of that both of these players have the same type of humble demeanor. In interviews, both of them seem to use relatively few words and are soft spoken. They both seem sorta wise beyond their years. I get 'speak softly and carry a big stick' vibes from these two as well.

Just a solid combo to extend. It's clear what the Titans like in their players.

Landry was actually drafted by the Titans back in 2018, so now he will be a Titan basically for all of his prime years. At least the majority of them anyway.

I'm glad I bought Landry's rookie card a few years back. It has aged well in my humble opinion! I need a Jones card for sure!

Jones was not originally drafted by the Titans but he has been a Titan for most of his career and he's actually been a Titan longer than Landry has. Jones signed with the Titans in 2016. This extension means he'll be a Titan far longer than he was ever a Texan, the team he spent his first four years with.

Harold Landry III signs a 5 year $87.5M contract with $52.5M guaranteed

Landry has just been super consistent not only statistically but also in availability. In Landry's four years with the Titans he is practically never on the injury report. Just another tremendous reason to extend him.

Landry is a very mobile, explosive OLB. He's got a well rounded, do-it-all high effort and motor playstyle, with good skills to boot. A pretty ideal edge player. No major weaknesses. He can even cover tight ends especially in the redzone.

In Landry's four years with the Titans he has appeared in 69 games and started 57 (including playoffs).

Landry's four year regular season stats include:

  • 31 Sacks
  • 41 Tackles for Loss
  • 256 Total Combined Tackles
  • 2 Interceptions
  • 2 Fumble Recoveries
  • 3 Forced Fumbles
  • 1x Pro Bowl

PLUS Landry III will only be 26 years old at the start of the new season!

This guy has so much upside and I'm glad he will be wearing two tone blue for the next half decade!

He seems pretty grateful!

Ben Jones gets a 2 year, $14M deal, with $8M guaranteed

Ben Jones is amazing, really. A good gritty, surprisingly athletic center who is known to play through injury. Jones's deal is actually an amazingly fair price for a player like him.

Jones is known to not only be a team leader, but also as a pretty frugal dude. Perhaps these factors are what led to this pretty team friendly deal. Also, Tennessee has like zero income tax or something like that. So pretty sweet!

In Jones's six seasons as a Titan he has started every single possible Titans game except a single regular season game from back in 2019. Just a model of availability. Amazing. It will be weird when Jones retire or leaves!

Jones is a great dude for the locker room, seems like a good teammate and person.

Overall, just a great duo to re-sign. Both just consistent players and leaders. Quality big men, and you can't have enough of them!

What do you think of the Titans extending these two players?

I love it.
