Titans defeat the 49ers in a THRILLING 20-17 victory!
This was basically A.J. Brown for the Titans last night....
Terrible first half for Tennessee
Yesterday against the 49ers, the Titans started out HORRIBLE. I was just ready for more pain of another promising start to a Titans season, to only end up barely being over .500.
The entire first half I was just infuriated. Ryan Tannehill looked like total garbage. I was literally brainstorming how I was going to roast him in my next post. I don't know if it was Tannehill or the playcalling but the offense was just awful. Penalties, sacks. Horrible screen plays or checkdowns on third and a mile. THEY EVEN RAN A DAMN DRAW ON THIRD AND FIFTEEN. I thought after that play choice the Titans were really trying to lose the game on purpose. It was a nightmare to watch, I wanted to pour hot fryer grease into my eyeballs. LOL!!
I was already not feeling too great about the Titans' chances going in to the game and after that horrible first half last night, I was feeling TERRIBLE about the Titans' chances of winning it. The Titans were somewhat lucky to only be down 10-0 after two quarters. The second half felt like a formality.
The only positive of the first half was the Titans defense. The defense totally kept the Titans in the game. In the first half Titans CB Jackrabbit Jenkins had a massive INT in the ENDZONE. The 49ers were, at that point, in position to be up 14-0 or at least 10-0 but Jackrabbit's pick prevented points on that drive! That was big.
Overall, the first half was nearly a disaster. But still, the Titans were only down 10-0, and they were going to receive the second half kickoff....
The second half was a whole new game!
The Titans, time and time again, show a great ability to make second half adjustments even when they look like dog crap.
The Titans would end up getting really hot as the second half went on, but it didn't necessarily start off with a bang.
The Titans had the ball first and on that first drive the Titans showed life, but it was absolutely a grind. Several third and long conversions to A.J. Brown were clutch. Ryan and A.J. really just seemed to move their way down the field by sheer force of will. That first drive was not pretty but they scratched and clawed their way within field goal range, and when Titans Randy Bullock scored those three points, it felt like the Titans scored a touchdown. After that terrible first half, the Titans showed small signs of life and were only down by seven, 10-3.
From that point on the game was a dogfight, but the Titans seemed to have the upper hand, the momentum. Safety Amani Hooker grabbed another interception for the Titans in the second half.
A.J. Brown only got more and more explosive after that tough, grimy, grind it out opening drive of the second half. A.J. Brown has gone off before, but yesterday was just different. This guy was out for several weeks and comes back right when the Titans needed him most. It was not just a monster performance by A.J. it was monster and CLUTCH!
It was a pleasure to watch this guy go off for the Titans man. I am still not used to seeing a Titans wide receiver be elite like this. I am just amazed. The Titans have had some tremendous running backs, but A.J. is quickly becoming a Titans great in his own lane as a wideout. This guy is just strong and electric. Those two words describe him perfectly as a player. He can catch short passes, medium passes, and deep passes. He can run past you but does not mind acting like a running back and running through you. Just amazing.
The Titans better pay this man when it's time!!!!!
Honestly that was how the rest of the game went. The 49ers had a good late touchdown to tie the game up, but Ryan Tannehill had his own moment where he put the team on his back and led the Titans to a late game winning field goal to seal the Titans victory....
This was such a tremendous, thrilling win for the Titans and they absolutely needed it. This game felt like a movie, the energy was just next level. This may have been the coolest most epic victory of the season. I mean I prefer the Titans blow teams out, but I'm not mad about this! The Titans keep proving how much championship spirit they can have. A.J. Brown is seriously maturing as a receiver. I've been praising Brown for years and I forget how young he still is. Dare I say he's getting better?!?!
Titans stats from the game:
- WR A.J. BROWN
- 11 receptions
- 145 receiving yards
- 1 TD reception
- QB Ryan Tannehill
- 209 passing yards, 1 TD
- 22 rushing yards
CB Jackrabbit Jenkins and S Amani Hooker each had an interception!
LB Bud Dupree and DL Denico Autry each had a sack!
The Titans are now even closer than ever to securing their second straight AFC South Title and are still very much in the mix for the #1 AFC Seed.
All the while, Derrick Henry is hopefully healing, and preparing....
I was feeling pretty down about the Titans, but now I really feel like the team could be back on it's way to something special. If players can get healthy and stay healthy, that is key.
All I know is that was a special and fun victory over a really good team. Now the Titans can rest ten days till their next game against the Dolphins.
I won't be forgetting this game any time soon!! WOW!! Leave any thoughts or comments from the game below!
