Phillies take the series vs Dodgers in dramatic fashion on Sunday! | Phils visit Braves tonight + A.D. Hammer RTTS Part 38
Sunday's game was one epic battle! It felt like a playoff game, it honestly felt pretty magical. I bet this game could turn some non-fans of the sport into baseball fans, it was that good.
Two of the best teams in baseball battling it out in The City of Brotherly Love. Stars all across the diamond like Shohei Ohtani and Bryce Harper. The series really lived up to the hype overall, but both teams definitely saved the best for last on Sunday.
This highly competitive back and forth game had it all. A lot of offense but with still some clutch moments of great pitching and defense sprinkled in. For maybe about three innings or so there was a light drizzle at Citizens Bank Park that was not really problematic by itself, but it was steady enough that it was certainly giving Dodgers pitcher Tyler Glasnow major issues on the mound. The rain was creating just enough mud that Glasnow couldn't properly command his pitches. The precipitation was so mild though that Glasnow and the Dodgers didn't have valid reason to complain, and I'm happy to report that I didn't see anyone complain once. I appreciate them not trying to find excuses.
But yeah, likely partially due to this drizzle, Glasnow really started to absolutely melt in the third inning. Ball after ball, walk after walk until he walked the bases loaded and gave up two runs which tied the game in the process. With Glasnow showing zero signs of improvement, the Dodgers took him out and as soon as play resumed Nick Castellanos absolutely nukes a pitch for the legendary grand slam which gave the Phillies a four run advantage!
The Dodgers showed no signs of quit though and would fight back to take the lead, until the Phillies took it back again and didn't give it back, winning 8-7. Just a serious heavyweight showdown! The overcast, chilly, drizzly environment made this game feel gritty and iconic. This is why I love baseball! This PHI-LA series could certainly be a 2025 NLCS Preview!
It was a team effort for sure, the Phillies drew eleven walks as a team. Sosa is staying hot, Harper had a day. Brandon Marsh was quiet with his bat but he made an absolutely outstanding diving catch in a significant moment for the Phillies. That dude is an athlete, the Titans could use a safety!
Yes Sunday's game was honestly filled with several magical moments. It was the team's biggest win of this young season and it was definitely one I won't forget. The Phillies look locked in to start 2025 and I am SOLD. I get a sense they are much wiser as a team after these recent successful seasons. This could be the year they do it...
BUT October is 176 days away and the Phillies have 153 more games to play.
Tonight the Phils are down south to see the rival Braves for the first time in 2025. The once feared Braves are struggling big time to start 2025 and they've gone a measly 1-8 to start the year. 2024 NL Cy Young Winner Chris Sale pitches for the Braves tonight and even he isn't looking too hot as he sports a 5.40 ERA to start the year.
The Phillies are already 7-2 but need to take it one game at a time. I'm sure the Braves see the Phillies as an opportunity to get right back into the mix. But for the Phillies if they win the series or of course sweep the Braves, even in a young season, that would give the Phillies healthy separation in the N.L. East.
Should be a fun series!
