Johnnie Morton Prism 2000 NFL Card - Detroit Lions WR

This card just has that retro look to it. I don't know if it's because of the card, the picture quality, the picture style, or the Lions uniform and bigger looking shoulder pads. But I like the look of the whole card. It has a nice nostalgic feel.

Watching Johnnie Morton highlights just emphasizes those feelings. Something about old Detroit Lions footage of them running along those old rough turf fields in basically sneakers. It just bleeds 90's.

Johnnie Morton in action!

Doing these card posts it feels like I'm being some sort of NFL Cold Case reporter. Shining light on old and perhaps forgotten NFL careers. Morton played in one to three seasons that I actually watched football. He retired when I was ten. I can't say I really recall watching him or remembering him if I did.

Johnnie Morton just might bring back some memories for some football fans out there. Johnnie Morton was a quality NFL wide receiver from 1994-2005. His career was so solid that honestly I was a little surprised he didn't go to a single Pro Bowl.

Morton rose to fame initially as a college athlete when he attended USC from 1990-1993. During his time there Morton would earn himself a Pop Warner Trophy and All-American Honors.

His collegiate success led to him being selected #21 overall in the First Round of the 1994 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions.

Morton would really go on to become a Detroit Lions legend. He is third in Lions history in receptions and receiving yards.

He wouldn't stay in Detroit forever though. In his twelve year career Morton played eight seasons with the Lions, three with the Chiefs, and in his final season he was a 49er.

Morton had a rock solid NFL career! Here are his career stats and accomplishments!

  • 8,719 Receiving Yards - 9,123 yards from scrimmage
  • 624 Receptions
  • 44 Touchdowns - 43 receiving, 1 kick return
  • 4x 1,000 Receiving Yards in a Season
  • 8x Appeared in all Sixteen Games - 1995-2001, 2003 - Lowest game appearances in a season was 13

I now respect this player and card a lot more, solid career!

What do you think of Johnnie Morton's career? Thoughts on the card? Anyone have any memories of watching Johnnie play?
