My Actifitivity: September 23 2022

Friday.

Yesterday was a sunny day again.

As every other day, I took a quick morning walk to meet my corvid friend Ronald and pay my peanut dues.

We've been doing this for about half a year now, but he's still always a bit shy in the beginning and keeping a safe distance.

When I drop the peanut at an arms reach from myself he'll casually walk a bit closer, sidelining the treat as if it wasn't even a thing.

Then he'll slowly circle back, sceptically looking back at me and the peanut.

Just to stop inches short of his treat and wait if something unexpected will happen.

At this point I'll have to close my eyes or pretend I am looking into another direction so he can hastily grab the treat.

You might expect him to take the peanut and get away with it quickly, but he already knows there will probably be a a few more, so he only takes two steps back to crack open the nuts.

Makes me wonder what all the fuss was about to begin with. I guess his instincts don't allow him to just trust me right away.

It also reminds me a bit of how cats sometimes behave. When they pretend not to notice or care about you while you are trying to get their attention until you start ignoring them and then they'll suddenly approach you instead.

Always a fun interaction that brings some joy to my heart.

Just quickly before I sign off: This is a friday report and I'll include a final update on the chicken-of-the-woods.

This is it... the mushroom is pretty much all gone and what remains can barely be recognized as a mushroom by now. I don't think it's worth it to keep these updates coming.

Remember how fresh and vibrant it looked like when I first found it back in July?!

Thanks for your time!

they can be tamed , we have one flying here in the area mimicking a mobile phone ring tone but it could also be a Eurasian magpie / Elster they also have the habit of mimicking sounds.

when I was a child, I kept a pet raven for a summer, like a proper big raven. It was already tamed and must have escaped from somewhere as it simply turned up in the garden one day and decide to befriend me. It stayed for a couple of months and then disappeared as spontaneously as it showed up.

Years later I learned there was a guy a few towns over that kept a whole flock of all sorts of birds and "Jockel", as I had named him, was his bird.

It'll probably take a lot of dedication the get a wild crow fully accustomed once it has sort of matured without human interaction... We'll see ;)
