The Acorn Cup U9s Soccer Tournament
Underage Soccer
So as you know, I'm heavily involved in underage soccer here in Galway. I coach an U9s team and an U12s team currently.
There was great excitement among the 60 to 70 U9 boys as they speculated on who would be the lucky 28 boys would be picked to represent the club at the Acorn cup.
It's a pretty high level with teams travelling from all over Ireland. This year we had high profile teams like, Shelbourne, St. Josephs, Mochta taking part.
My middle son made the team and was delighted. He plays right back but is also a good goalkeeper, so he went in goals for the tournament.
He did really well, pulling off some great saves along the way. There was one double save which was unreal and got great praise from the coaches on both teams and the parents and others wathing, so I was really proud of him.
Here is how the group stages finished. We are Salthill Devon, so as you can see, we did pretty well.
Here are a few shots of the lads out on the pitch.
Last but not least here are some photos of the winning teams. The feedback was brilliant on the tournament and all the visitors were impressed with our facilities which are among the best in the country.
