They love to surf, and nothing stops them. Few are the surfable waves, and in winter is when most occasions arise. They advance barefoot over the sharp rocks, reach the platform that they put there years ago, and throw themselves into the sea. There is no sand underneath. The same granite razors await them if they fall too late. They swim a hundred meters against the raging waves and wait for the ones they consider surfing. They have only twenty seconds to brace, climb in and hold on for the rest of that time. They have to jump into the water before they reach the shore, the rocks are unforgiving. This is not California, nor Australia, nor South Africa. Here you will not be able to get into the tube, which is when the wave surrounds you and allows you to caress its walls from the inside. Here it's all about getting in and out just when the fun begins. But they live those seconds as if they were eternal, as if they were in California. Against all odds.

Les gusta surfear, y nada les detiene. Pocas son las olas surfeables, y en invierno es cuando más ocasiones se presentan. Avanzan descalzos sobre las filosas rocas, llegan a la plataforma que ellos mismos pusieron ahí hace años, y se lanzan al mar. Debajo no hay arena. Las mismas navajas de granito les esperan si caen demasiado tarde. Nadan unos cien metros contra las olas furiosas y esperan las que consideran para surfear. Sólo tienen veinte segundos para bracear, subirse y mantenerse el resto de ese tiempo. Tienen que lanzarse al agua antes de llegar a la orilla, las rocas no perdonan. Esto no es California, ni Australia, ni Sudáfrica. Aquí no podrán meterse en el tubo, que es cuando la ola les rodea y les permite acariciar sus paredes por dentro. Aquí se trata de subirse y bajarse justo cuando empieza la diversión. Pero viven esos segundos como si fueran eternos, como si estuvieran en California. Contra todos los pronósticos.
